New Dressing Dolls

I don't know much about these two dolls. They appear very similar to Samuel Gabriel Sons My dolly Series but aren't quite the same.  The most notable difference is the doll has bows on her dress. Also I believe these are much smaller These are also marked "Comfort" Augusta, ME and may have been used for advertisement.   I have 2 dolls, (the boy is pretty beat up) along with 2 envelopes.  The boy only has one blue outfit with a hat, (uncut) and the girl has 3 outfits, 1 green 1 pink, and 1 blue.  I have 3 matching hats, and 1 extra pink which suggest there was another pink outfit.  i found this auction picture, that seems to be similar and mentions the envelope as well

If anyone has additional information, please let me know.

2016 Convention Photos

Above photos, SHOW and SHARE room

My mom's entries to the competition

My entries to the competition

My raffle prizes (won one more stack after this photo)

My freebie haul

It's been a week since I last posted!  Hopefully fall classes won't be as crazy busy as summer. And these photos are from more then a year ago!  But since the current convention is going on now, I thought I'd finally dump them here.  Also I have more on a camera that won't connect to my computer, so I'll try to post those if I can.  As you can see, my photos are blurry! This is my phone's camera, which is not very good.  If you see you're item in the show and share, let me know and i'll label it.

Music Inspiration

Alright, managed to finish this today!  Been SUPER BUSY with summer school doing very strange 'art' projects.  For music inspiration I decided to focus on bands and band shirts, (mostly rock).  My orignal idea was to do outfits inspired by Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Beyonce but once I started school I knew that would not happen.  The tank top is a shirt I actually owned (the version I owned was 3/4 sleeve) for the band Siouxsie and the Banshees.  The top under that is a No Doubt t-shirt (I had a different one with the band drawn as cartoons)

The last shirt is a Linkin Park shirt, and as many of you know (or may not know) one of the singers, Chester Bennington committed suicide earlier this month.  The band now has a new logo but I decided to do the old logo.  I grew up listening to this band, especially their first two albums.  I was very saddened to hear the news.

As much as I would love to include every band I ever loved, it would be too much!  For the pants I've included patches from the following bands (in no particular order):

Rolling Stones
Pink Floyd
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
David Bowie (not a band but love him!)
Led Zeppelin

I tried to choose bands that had iconic logos (and also easy to draw) I did NOT freehand any of these!  Anyway Offspring patch is particularly important because when my fiance and I started dating, he invited me to an Offspring concert. I was too embarrassed to tell him I had no idea who the band was and declined his offer.  After the concert, he gave me the patch.

And so, the last thing is the hair, which is inspired by Sia's famous wig. For more outfits for this doll drawn by me click here

Please check out the other great outfits for this month's theme!  So much variety!

These two pages of paper dolls represent real dolls from the Fashion Royalty line.  Both dolls were exclusive, the top was a convention exclusive and the bottom was exclusive to Japan.  The top doll has a dress, stockings, and an extra pair of shoes.  The bottom has 2 tops, pants, boots and a katana sword.  The artist is Lisa Miller.  These pages are from a doll magazine, but I forget which one!

Paper Figure

This bright magazine page features an action figure paper doll.  The man has 3 costumes; a spacesuit, a soldier, and a super hero.  Inspired by but not based on any particular action figure, it reminds me of Captain Action.  This two page paper doll was in Haute Doll Magazine August 2013. The artist is H. Kuffel.

Googly Baby

This adorable 2 page paper doll is by the artist Karen Reilly and was featured in Doll Reader June/July 2008.  The doll has 3 outfits with 1 hat but tons of cute tiny accessories such as toys, kitchen items, and vanity items.  The little bunny on the first page reminds me a lot of Grace G Drayton.  The soft pastel colors are quite pleasing.

Mythical Creatures

Alright done with that...

This month's theme for the Paper Doll Collaboration Project was Mythical Creatures.  My first thought was Lamia, since I've been reading/watching the anime Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls.  Please note before you look it up, it is NOT the most appropriate series in the world!  Anyway, a Lamia is a Greek inspired myth where one of Zeus's poor girlfriends (named Lamia) gets turned into a child-eating monster by the jealous Hera.  She's not always a half snake lady, but that seems to be the most popular depiction.  Also, she can never close her eyes, poor thing!  A Naga is a religious deity linked with Indian religion such as Buddhism and Hinduism, that can take the form of a 'very great snake' usually a cobra.  Sometimes they are part-snake, part human and sometimes they are just snakes depending on the tale.  Naga show up in other cultures as well.  Gorgon's hardly need any introduction, since they are the most well known with Medusa being the most popular.  Another Greek myth, these creatures differ in appearance as well over different myths but usually thought of having snake hair and turn people to stone if they look at them.  I made the snake hair a little more playful and cartoonist, inspired by Monster High.  Kinda looks like brains from far away, now that I see it smaller on the screen. Wow, I think that's the most I've ever written on this blog!
